The British Alumni Singapore (BAS) is a society of UK graduates residing in Singapore. The society was initiated in June 1986 with the support of Mr Desmond Lauder, former British Education Counsellor at the British Council and a group of young, returned Singaporean graduates.
Officially registered in November 1986, the British Alumni (S) inaugural General Meeting was held on 6 March 1987 at Eden Hall, residence of the British High Commissioner in Singapore. It serves to represent graduates from more than 80 British universities.
Through a wide range of cultural, social and educational activities, we hope to forge strong ties between returning graduates and their alma mater.
25th Anniversary Message:
"I am delighted that British Alumni Singapore is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Many thanks for the photos of the celebrations at EdenHall in March. I have little recollection of the circumstances under which I got together with a few alumni in Singapore to discuss how we could establish an alumni association that would have lasting relevance to graduates of UK universities in Singapore. But I do recall arguing that the objectives of the association should go beyond social and professional networking and ideally include some more altruistic purposes. And I understand that this is still an important feature of the association today. So I wish you all a memorable silver jubilee and every success in the next 25 years!"
